South Australian Minister for Tourism
It is my pleasure to welcome you to ATEC Meeting Place – its very first time in Adelaide.
Bringing over one hundred travel buyers representing markets from across the globe here together in Adelaide – events like this are key to recovering international visitation following the impacts of the pandemic.
While South Australia has seen strong growth in international visitor spend over the last 12 months or so – growth that is well ahead of predictions – there is still a way to go to reclaim our once $1.2 billion international market. The South Australian Government is doing everything we can to continue to rebuild this valuable sector of our visitor economy and bringing this event to our state is an important step forward.
Hosting ATEC Meeting Place – one of the nation’s flagship tourism industry events – provides a terrific opportunity to showcase Adelaide and South Australia directly to those who will help sell it internationally. We have a bold vision to not only reclaim our pre pandemic international visitor expenditure but to go beyond that, as we set our sights to our 2030 target of $3.3 billion.
If you are visiting from out-of-state, I encourage you to make the most of your stay – use this as an opportunity to immerse yourself in our city’s vibrant culture and community, and a chance to explore some of the incredible tourism experiences on offer across South Australia. With world-class wine regions less than an hour’s drive from the city, impeccable natural landscapes, the freshest of local produce and some of the best restaurants and cafes who know how to use it – there is much to see and do in South Australia.
Congratulations to ATEC and all those involved in organising this event – I wish you every success.
